LMP
We had 12 racers for LMP and ran a round-robin race with 4 sit-outs.
PA Watson TQ’ed at 5.206, which if we were still keeping records, probably was one. It wasn’t even close, with Ken Stevens second, .283 back.
And as you might expect from qualifying, PA took the win, seven laps up on Ken. I hung on for third, just ahead of Jerry Straznicky in fourth. The Engleman was its usual tough self, with a lot of us having trouble in the esses on black lane.
TQ: PA Watson…5.206

Pro GTP
Turnout for Pro GTP has been pretty light since it replaced the Flexi GTP class in 2017, but we had ten starters on Saturday, a new record for Pro GTP. I’m attributing this to a slew of new, and very fast, sealed motors that have become available in the last year for under $25. Half of the field were running JK Hawk 6’s with Pro Slot or Koford Group 12 arms, while the other half ran various sealed motors; John Ganske’s Argentina Slot Raptor-powered car was a rocket on the straights.
I managed to TQ by .03 over PA, who was just .01 faster than Matt Taylor.
The race was pretty wild, with PA and Ken having trouble with nose-outs on purple under the bridge. Jim did something…I wasn’t paying attention as to just what it was…about halfway through PA’s heat on purple that fixed it, but the damage was done. I got the win by just two laps over PA, who edged Brandon Schlicht by one. Brandon ran a great race with a hand-me-down, Frankenstein-ed JK X-25 Flexi chassis powered by a well-used Mid-American Stage 5 sealed motor.
TQ: Scott Taylor…5.013
Race results (Racer…laps…fast lap):
1. Scott Taylor…239…5.274
2. PA Watson…237…5.276
3. Brandon Schlicht…236…5.400
4. Jerry Straznicky…230…5.396
5. Matt Taylor…222…5.508
6. Charles Campa…218…5.806
7. John Ganske…215…5.642
8. Lee Robinson…209…5.621
9. James R. Meadours…203…5.775
10. Ken Stevens…90 (DNF)…5.522
The track was glued Thursday night before the race, and a bunch of us were on hand Friday afternoon to run it in. The track was still stuck, but not too much so, on Saturday morning, and stayed stuck all day.
Thanks to Jim Honeycutt for the great job on track prep and for race-directing on Saturday, and to Cliff Wheeler for managing the shop while Jim oversaw the racing.
