BIG CHANGE for the Novice class effective immediately
Here's what's up: No one showed up to race in this class in Houston, and goodness knows if it will get some legs as the series goes on. But, there is at least one racer in San Antonio who has purchased JK RTR cars...with the chassis already required in this class...for young racers, and to make those cars legal for this class he would have to take the cars apart, change the motor and gears, put on a new body, etc. In effect, he would have to rebuild an RTR car to make it legal. But really...what could be more novice-friendly than an already-built RTR car?
Thus:
All of the JK RTR cars with part numbers starting with JK20417 will now be legal in this class. If I counted them correctly, there are 26 of them currently in stock at Eagle Distributing. These cars feature the same chassis required by George at the start of the series, but differ from the original Novice GTP class rules primarily due to the following: - They have Hawk 7 motors instead of Retro Hawks. The Hawk 7 will now be allowed in this class in addition to the Retro Hawk - I don't know the gear ratios in these RTR cars, but they might not be 12/36 as originally required in this class. Whatever they come with as long as they're 64 pitch they're allowed. Thus, the previous restriction to 12/36 in this class is waived, but gears must be 64 pitch. - These RTR cars come with LMP bodies, thus LMP bodies are now allowed in the class. It is now the "Novice Class", not "Novice GTP". - The original LMP body supplied by JK on the car may be replaced with another manufacturer's LMP body. Exception: bodies wider than 3.25 inches (such as the Orca) are not allowed...if you do not buy your body from your local shop and instead go online, do your homework and don't order an illegal body because it will not be allowed. - Because this was originally a GTP class, the specific GTP bodies that George listed in the original rules are still also allowed. But they remain the ONLY legal GTP bodies. - Anyone who has built or purchased a car that complies with George's original GTP rules may race it. If you want to, you may change the gear ratio and you may use a Hawk 7 instead of a Retro Hawk.
So that's it. I will update the original rules at top to reflect this new stuff but it may not happen before Saturday. If any questions, reply below and I will answer ASAP.
Thanks
